Max and the Comcast Man

Sunny is doing a Jewelry Party today so she asked me to write her blog .

Wouldn’t you know that Comcast service went out!  the first thing I did was call and the Comcast folks said they would be right out.

I was a tad worried because Sunny has not always had the best response from Comcast.  Must be her attitude, because I got the most wonderful Comcast man in the world to come out right away. It goes with out saying that he fixed the equipment right away, but he must also have been a real “cat person”.  He let me rub against his legs and lick his fingers. I liked this guy!  Comcast must be doing some quality hiring!!!

So I think from now on, I will be in charge of the tech side of things….and Sunny can do the things she does best….like fill up my cat food dish and buy jewelry!

Employees

Finding good employees is always a challenge, but never more than for a new/small business person. A mistake for YOU is fatal to your business. I started with my family. In the last 3 months, I have been in and out of the hospital 8 times. My business would not have survived without the help of my sister and brother-in-law. They took care of my puppy, helped set up and take down my booth at the market, and today are helping me move into my new apartment.

I see many vendors at the market who hire even young children to learn the business by working along side them in their booths.

Websites and Rhinestones

When I started my business, I thought I would be selling Vintage Inspired Rhinestone Jewelry. And I am. It is something I love to do and I can bore anyone silly discussing it ENDLESSLY.

But as I went around selling my jewelry, I ran into so many other vendors who needed websites and could not afford to spend thousands to get a simple website up and running.

So I “accidentally” backed into the business of designing very simple websites for other vendors. And everything I know about it, I have learned on the fly. So this blog will about those two loves….running the jewelry business and designing simple websites for new business and what I have learned from both…oh, and a little bit about my other loves, Max and Bandit.

the video that did not happen

meant to film a video for my website today, borrowed a camera, wrote a script and everything.

the day started with me hitting my business partner, boomer,in the head with a fly-a-way bungee cord.

she had barley recovered from that little maneuver when i caught 3 fingers and nearly broke them in the same bungee cord. it took both of us way too long to release my hand. why all the bungee cords you ask……because we are selling jewelry in a gale force wind. and why the funny typing and no capitol letters…because my computer keyboard quit working today,too…..

so on to a little brunch break for sunny while boomer waits on customers….suddenly i am choking. terrified, i pull on boomer`s shirt.  she gives me a `can`t you see i`m busy with a client look` and turns away. frantically, i grab her shirt and point to my throat.  she asks if i am all right and i shake my head`no`.  at this time my world starts to go sparkly white and then starts fading to black. boomer is yelling `somebody help us` but also doing the Heimlich on me. it worked.

but we decided this was not the day we wanted to capture for posterity on video, unless it would be titled `the keystone cops sell rhinestones.

Have you ever worked in the corporate world?

Of course , that is why you are taking this class, to get off the hamster wheel, etc…

And as part of that corporate world, did you have to come up with a new computer password every 90 days, and was the format so difficult to remember that EVERYONE prominently displayed their password taped to the computer? I mean, what did they think, that gremlins were going to sneak into the office and break into our computers and figure out how to do our mind numbing work?!?!

Anyway, today a friend told me that he “snapped” at work and sent this letter. Perhaps you can relate.

“Dear Information Services Department (IS):

“Passwords must be between 8 to 12 characters in length and must contain at least 1 uppercase and 1 lowercase letter, 1 numeric character, and one special character. Only the following special characters can be used in conjunction with your password: !@#$%^&+=\_\-/.”

WHY??? – Are you freaking CRAZY???

Do you people sit up there just thinking up ways to make the hopeless peons jump through your hoops??? .

You are supposed to be a SUPPORT function… HELLOOOOOO!!!

That means you help us by providing the tools we need to perform our jobs!!!

Your department is not intended to be a Tyrannical Oligarchy.

That is HR’s function.

Could you possibly be any more ARROGANT???!

And you are responsible for a great waste of productivity by timing out our computers every few minutes, so we have to log back in 50 times a day (with a complex 7- digit password no less, that needs to be re-created and  a new one memorized every 90 days!!! Thank you very much!!!).

This is ASSININE! We are not launching missiles here!!!

And the Chinese do not need any more of our secrets since the Clinton Administration.

Max Steps Out

Hello!!Greetings from Max the Bling Cat!

First things first!

If things look a bit different today, Sunny has allowed me my own theme page on days when I write the blog, as well as my own “ABOUT ME” page…as well she should!!

And there is at least one other thing that I would like to get straight right off the bat….GENDER! I suffered enough when Sunny thought that I was a BOY for the first few months until she took me to the vet for my shots, but now I see from some of my “comments” that some of you are also confused, perhaps because of my name. Max is short for Maxine. And if any of you had read John Ho’s post on Mother’s Day, you would have seen that

Speaking of other bloggers, I have to say that I LOVED Christian Haller’s posts with lobster and shrimp, but the stuff from India, whew, too hot for cats! Christian, really you should joint venture with that guy from Marketing Scoops. EVERYONE likes ice cream. Even cats. Well, especially cats. I say if you start with cream how far wrong can you go???

By the way Lisa, I have a tip for you. I know you are good with kids. I am, too. I just give them my BEHAVE look and they settle down. You might want to practice it.

Speaking of behaving, I want the NeuroBlaster Master, Bob Kaufer,  to know that Sunny is faithfully doing her Z Health exercises….puts me right to sleep as she is still in S-L-O-W speed. Puts me in a sort of Zen mood, you know what I mean, Anthony?

See? I used three syllable words too. I am looking for the high end market as well!

I do already have my own boyfriend and he spoils me rotten, gifts, food, scratching my tummy…for a human he is okay! When I get bored and Sunny is not home, I call him up and invite him over.

JJ, Sunny says that I could be a coach just like you because I motivate her so well…every morning, she says, time to go earn the cat food!!

That means I have to put on the stupid jewelry for the pictures…The secret is now out as to how she does it. She hypnotizes me. Thank you David Power!!! I saw that video on your blog….

So to all of you who have provided sales and marketing advice (I’d like to see some of those sales eagles up close and personal) here are our latest jewelry shots:Protect them Assets, Rob!

No actual cats were injured in this process. Forced to endured indignity perhaps, but not injured.Phil, I told her that I would do this ONLY if I got pens to give out with my name on them.

What’s New?

Jewelry is fun because just when you think that you  are certain you have seen the most beautiful piece ever….you find something you love even more…

This week we went and bought some INCREDIBLE new pieces for a large show we will be doing in June. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing some of them with you!

The bracelets above are one of the items we purchased. We have them in ten colors. They close with a magnetic clasp and so are easy to get on and off… the stones are HUGE and alternate between clear and fiery aurora borealis! They are so breathtaking that people stop me on the street and buy them off my wrists!! We re-ordered the day after our first purchase…best thing…similar items sell for $120 in retail stores in New York. Ours retail for $20!

We also added some floral items and this is one of them….very spring and summer like!

It is also a collar and they seem to be very popular. This one retails for $50 and we sell matching pink pearl earrings for just $5.

Another spring and summer purchase is this item:With matching earrings, it retails for $75 and also comes in black, white, pink, red and purple. We think the floral theme is great right now at the Farmers Market and with summer clothes.

I am one worn out kitty!!!

Sunny has been going thru the “The Grief Recovery Handbook” which she purchased on April Braswell’s website. Frankly, she has gotten a bit “blogged” down by the recovery work. And I have been working like a well,

DOG, to keep her spirits up!! Here I am playing with my favorite toy in an effort to amuse her…this usually makes her laugh.

I have escaped in to the hallway at least once a day so that she gets her exercise chasing me. That Z Health excercise stuff is all well and good for her balance but it doesn’t get her heart rate up like running thru the halls yelling, “Max, you naughty kitty, get back here right now!”

I have called for take out pizza …..that is generally a sure bet for getting a smile….

I have done everything but let her put that stupid rhinestone collar and leash on me again. Ask April how THAT went. It is just too degrading to make a respectable cat walk on a leash. A dog, yes. A cat, no.

But at the end of the day when she crawls into bed and is still working on her “Relationship Charts” and looking sad, I crawl into her lap and lean against her and purr VERY LOUD. Then I give her a kitty hug and a kiss on the nose. And she knows that one big furry cat loves her very much….

Whew…relationships are a lot of work!
